I helped him back his car out of the alley. I told him I was a fan and we talked. I guess moments like that can never be taken away. In fact I help Tom Gray do the same.Ericnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760224191373220889.post-38212852404542417712012-02-10T08:26:28.984-08:002012-02-10T08:26:28.984-08:00That's really cool. There are plenty of Duffey videos on youtube that can give you a sense of what he was like. The High Lonesome documentary has a nice interview as well.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18201456700925939354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760224191373220889.post-6678231121726718702012-02-06T20:36:54.115-08:002012-02-06T20:36:54.115-08:00Wow! being 10 when John Duffey passed away I never...Wow! being 10 when John Duffey passed away I never got to see the man. I worked at a Wal Mart in southern Maryland while in college. I befriended an older man who had a comkon love for local bluegrass music. I told him I collected albums and one day be brought me the first 5 Seldom Scene lp's signed by the entire band. This maybe the nicest thing anybody has ever given me to date.Ericnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760224191373220889.post-24317231453811434792011-12-16T14:59:30.417-08:002011-12-16T14:59:30.417-08:00I would love to see Lucinda at the Birchmere. I still play most of their albums, though Act II, Cellar Door, and Old Train have definitely gotten the most listens--particularly Act II, one of my desert island discs.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18201456700925939354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760224191373220889.post-61598945120621758162011-12-14T09:19:44.619-08:002011-12-14T09:19:44.619-08:00Lovely homage. This piece reminds me to spend more time seeking new talent so that my concert-going experiences enjoy more intimacy since it's the less-discovered group that books such venues. The new Birchmere seemed cozy and alive when we saw Lucinda Williams, but she was not yet made haggard by years of road tours. More than anything, having good friends alongside help me remember the essence of any concert. I think I'll pull out some Seldom Scene today; it's been a really long time. So, thanks Mike!Megan Louise Atha Justhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18333429381638875413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8760224191373220889.post-71466030325370018372011-12-14T07:31:19.989-08:002011-12-14T07:31:19.989-08:00well done tribute to duffey-- i enjoyed the bluegr...well done tribute to duffey-- i enjoyed the bluegrass unlimited piece as well. you should scan and post that somewhere around here! it would have been cool to see doc and auldridge, for sure...John T.noreply@blogger.com
